The Ladies of Happy Little Surprise have decided to dedicate a portion of our site to talk about the trials, tribulations and hopefully the healing associated with a disease that affects too many woman; endometriosis. One of our own, Dani Lyman, has battled this ugly disease for years, but in the summer of 2009 she took a turn for the worst and in a blink of an eye the illness had progressed so rapidly it took over her life. “Crippling” is the best word she can use to describe it. Endometriosis is a crippling disease that caused an energetic go-getter to be bedridden for a year.
Two things helped her survive the most physically challenging year of her life: loved ones and faith. Without the support of her family, closest friends and her faith in God, she would not have survived the countless days she was unable to get out of bed, walk without pain, the many trips to the hospital, the frustrating meetings with doctors, the vomiting, the fatigue, the fear.
A year later her battle continues. Like so many women who struggle with this disease, she is still in pain and experiencing horrible symptoms despite having a very successful surgery that we all hoped would have solved the problem and relieve her pain. Because of her complete desperation to heal, regain control over her body and her life she has decided to go on an extreme diet and life changing journey as recommended by a wonderful natural doctor. She has decided to create a blog to share her emotional, psychological and physical journey during this challenging time in the hope of helping other women who are struggling with this life altering illness.
Dani was diagnosed with Stage IV, which is the most advanced stage and is one of the rare cases where her bowels were deeply affected by the disease. Although many women suffer through the same symptoms, every case is unique, just as challenging and has it’s own path to recovery. This blog is intended to follow Dani’s journey to renewed health in a an honest and hopefully inspiring way and perhaps even bring awareness to this ever growing evil little disease and the women who are afflicted by it.
Enjoy,
The Ladies of Happy Little Surprise
